A Caveman’s Story
After a year of educating, counseling, and practically force -feeding Paleo (the paleo diet.com) information to anyone that would listen we knew it was time to put a nutritional challenge out there. Over 30 highly skeptical people committed to The Caveman Nancy Challenge. Challengers completed a body fat assessment with before/after pictures and benchmark workout, “Nancy” Crossfit.com This workout is 20 minutes or less of intense power output, yet scalable to any level of fitness. As a final detail, the challengers were asked to eat like a caveman for the next 6 weeks, also known as The Paleo Diet. Meats and veggies, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.
If you can hunt it or grow it you can eat it.
Overcoming an injury did not stop Mike B. from stepping up to the challenge CrossFit Cedar Park put forth. He started this event weighing in at 250 pounds at 26.5% body fat. Mike was very stiff and inflexible with little cardiovascular capacity. This equated to an unhealthy balance of life with children and a career in the military. Three weeks into the challenge Mike was feeling the results. He admitted that before he made his commitment to us his life was at an all time low, comparable to rock bottom. It was evident, both physically and mentally, that the combination of paleo and CrossFit gave him hope and motivation. By the final day of The Caveman Nancy Challenge(after just 6 weeks!), Mike weighed 232 pounds with a body fat of 17.7%. With 18 pounds less, Mike is now stronger and much happier.
Of all the challengers, Mike B seemed to have had the biggest transformation both mentally and physically.
He is the prime example of having the ability to turn a negative into a positive by pushing through a little pain.
